  • Students will reread the prior chapter to prepare for a classroom discussion.
  • Students will analyze Sherlock’s methods.
  • Students will understand that authors allow insight into a character’s thought to specific details.

    PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
  • Students will have read "A Study in Scarlet Chap. 4 for homework.

    ACTIVITIES/ OUTCOMES

  • Students will have time to reread Chapter 4 of "A Study in Scarlet."
  • In small groups students will briefly summarize the chapter and its relationship to the prior three chapters.
  • Discussion: Sherlock determines that the writing was intended to trick the police. How does he do this? What skills have we talked about before that help him accomplish it? (well-rounded.)
  • Students will make predictions for Chapter 5.

    ASSESSMENT

  • NOTE: This chapter is very short and the assessment will be combined with Chapter 5.
