  • Students will be provided with silent reading time to review Chapter 5.
  • Students will continue to discuss and analyze character development.
  • Students will be able to identify a historical character mentioned in the chapter.
  • Students will respond to a journal prompt related to the story.

    PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
  • Students will have read "A Study in Scarlet Chap. 5 for homework.

    ACTIVITIES/ OUTCOMES

  • Students will work in small groups to list the most important events in this chapter. Each group will share the events aloud and create a master list for the class.
  • Sherlock is tricked in this chapter. How does he react? Explain what we learn about his character.
  • Journal: Has someone you know/knew ever tricked you to get what they wanted? Explain.
  • Sherlock mentions a famous person, Charles Darwin. Who was he? What is he famous for? Students will research Charles Darwin during a trip to the library and write a brief summary of what they found.
  • Quiz: "A Study in Scarlet" Chapter 4.

    ASSESSMENT

  • HW: Read Chapter VI of "A Study in Scarlet." Pgs. 29-33. List/underline any important events or topics you think we might discuss.
