  • Students will be assessed on the recent reading of the text.

    ACTIVITIES/ OUTCOMES

  • Silent reading (15 minutes.)
  • Mini-lesson review of Chapter 6.
  • Small groups will discuss Holmes’ experiment with the pills and the outcome. They will then compare the scientific method to his steps to determine if they are similar. Groups will orally report their findings. How did Holmes confirm his hypothesis.
  • Part 1 of "A Study in Scarlet" ends with an arrest of Jefferson Hope. What do you think Part 2 will be about? Make predictions.
  • Small groups will look at their lists of important events in the story and create a final list of 10.
  • 20-25 minutes. Class discussion of their experience with the first Holmes’ story will end the lesson.
  • Quiz: "A Study in Scarlet" chapter 6.

    ASSESSMENT

  • Student will be assessed on the entire "A Study in Scarlet" the following day.
  • Read Chapter 1 Part 2 of "A Study in Scarlet", "The Country of the Saints."
