The Sherlock Webliography

The following sites were provided to students for further use. Some are very specific about the material they focus on and others are broad. If you use one of the full text websites DO NOT attempt to print the stories. They will take up too much paper which will weigh more than you. They are in the public domain now and you can download them.

This list is by no means complete. If you have a suggestion please let me know and it will be added.

1) Sherlockian.net

http://www.sherlockian.net/world/index.html

2) The Sherlock Connection

http://www.bcpl.net/%7Elmoskowi/holmes.html

A large site full of Sherlockian information and a message board. Very enjoyable and easy to navigate. It also provides additional links to Sherlock sites.

3) Oh, you don’t know Sherlock Holmes yet! : A little of Sherlock Holmes.

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/4040/sherlock.html

Claims to be small but is huge and full of information about Holmes and the adventures. Attractive and offers a detailed physical description of Holmes. Well organized with further links.

4) Literature.org The On-line Literature Library

http://www.literature.org/authors/doyle-arthur-conan/

Provides full text of every Holmes adventure. Free access. Easy to navigate. Part of a much larger site.

5) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (a biography)

http://www.sherlockholmesonline.org/biography/index.htm

A site dedicated more to chronicling Doyle’s life than Sherlock. Useful for background information on the author. It also provides information on films with Holmes.

6) Holmes Family Tree

http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/contributors/holmes-family-tree.htm

With the self-explanatory title the site, by Brad Mengel, contains and extensive list of people believed to be related to Holmes. Interesting read and I used it in my lesson on family trees.

7) Sherlock Holmes, Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia Article.

http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/S/Sh/Sherlock_Holmes.htm

The home page of this site has an excellent article that summarizes who Holmes is, how Doyle developed the character. It has individual entries on other characters. There are also definitions for terminology that might be confusing to readers. A great entry on Irene Adler.

8) "Sherlock Says: Oh, you don’t know Sherlock Holmes yet."

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/4040/quote.html

Analysis provided on Holmes’ traits. There is also a list of quotations by Holmes that gave readers insight into his character.

9) "Sherlock Holmes’ Resume."

http://www.magicdragon.com/SherlockHolmes/resumes/Holmes.html

This is the most comprehensive listing of Sherlock’s abilities and career achievements in resume format. Will work well with identifying instances of each trait as students read the stories.

10) "Quotes From Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes"

http://www.amk.ca/quotations/sherlock-holmes/

If you’re looking for a specific quotation in one of the stories; look no further. This is one of the many sites dedicated to it. There are others that are quite impressive. You’ll find what you want here.
